What’s In A Name?
Throughout my education in the field of Psychology, a recurring concept that was discussed was that of ‘Empathy’. Only once I began working as a mental health and wellness practitioner did I truly understand that empathy is not just a skill a good therapist must possess, but rather needs to be a core value of who they are. The dictionary defines empathy as, “the feeling that you understand and share another person’s experiences and emotions: the ability to share someone else’s feelings”. The Empathy Centre is built around this core value. It is a place where no matter what, you – the client – is treated first and foremost with empathy and dignity. It is our honour and privilege to be there for you throughout your journey.

Looking back I can now see that my friends, peers and those closest to me were exhibiting signs of mental health concerns. But at the time I had no idea that when people around me were self-harming, developing dangerous eating habits, displaying erratic moods or commenting on wanting to give up altogether, that they were experiencing something that required professional help. Therapy was just something that wasn’t talked about. I aim to change that. The Empathy Centre was founded to create a place for people seeking self-improvement, as well as to educate the world about mental health, and to shatter the stigma around it.”

Our Logo

The logo of The Empathy Centre is a collection of carefully thought out aspects designed to best represent challenges one may face when confronting a mental wellness concern.
First, the colour yellow we used is to symbolise hope and upliftment.
Secondly, the design of our logo is a maze. Why a maze you ask? Well, life is full of twists and turns and dead ends. The maze represents one’s journey through life. Your destination may not be clear, but you persevere and continue on into the unknown anyway.
Lastly, at the heart of the maze is a stylised semicolon (;). A semicolon is a literary tool used to indicate that though an author could end the sentence, they choose not to. The semicolon has been used within the mental health community as a symbol of unity for those struggling with their mental health. To those in the mental health community, it means, and then… Indicating that one’s story is not over, simply because they may struggle with their mental health, but rather that they choose to continue on.
