What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is different from therapy, giving advice, mentoring, counselling, or consulting. Life coaching is goal centric, in that the primary focus is to help clients to achieve their personal growth and social development goals. When a therapist takes on a client who is suffering from a mental illness, the primary goal is to help to alleviate their symptoms. Essentially the goal with clients who have a mental health concern is to take a person who’s functioning is below average, and facilitate their ability to return to their ‘normal’ level of functioning. Life coaching, on the other hand, focuses on individuals who want to push their level of functioning above their norm.
Some areas of focus during life coaching sessions include Goal Development, Clarity, Motivation, Communication and Core Beliefs and Values. By working on an individual’s social, emotional and personal goals, we aim to help each client achieve holistic self-improvement.
